Solid Wood Flooring is one piece of wood from top to bottom regardless of its length or width.
The different species (oak, walnut, maple etc), stains and finishes enable a personal choice of
solid wooden flooring.
Solid Wooden Flooring lasts a long time and is a great choice for many areas of your home. or
business premises.
Please Note: Solid Wooden Flooring is not suitable for covering under-floor heating.
Engineered Wood Flooring is layered tiers of real wood pressed together. The surface
veneer layer comes in different designs, finishes and thicknesses. A common veneer
thickness of 3.6mm can be sanded 4 or 5 times. The layers of real wood run in
different directions making it more dimensionally stable than solid wood flooring but
identical in appearance.
Engineered Wood Flooring is ideal for areas unsuitable for solid wood floors such as
basements, conservatories and for covering under-floor heating.
Laminate Flooring is man-made with a high quality photographic image of wood, or
stone, placed on a core board and coated with a tough melamine layer which makes
laminate flooring very hardwearing. It is less liable to scratch than real wood making
laminate flooring ideal for all rooms in busy homes and businesses.
Please note: There are different grades of laminate flooring, AC1 to AC6, with AC6
being best for very heavy commercial installations.
Vinyl Flooring is man-made (pvc resin and plasticisers) and designed with a
photographic image layer to replicate other materials that may not be
suitable as flooring in your required location.
Vinyl flooring is very strong and made to withstand cracks, chips, scratches
etc, making vinyl flooring far more durable than other flooring material such
as stone or ceramic.
Carpets are made from natural or man made fibres. Usually there is a top
layer of fibres, the part you walk on, and a base layer which holds the fibres
in place. The backing is made from hessian or jute and some carpets come
with a foam backing which acts as an underlay.
Natural carpet has a natural material surface such as Coir, Seagrass,
Mountain Grass, Sisal or Jute. These fibres are 100% natural and are woven
into designs such as boucle or herringbone pattern. Wool carpets are also
natural of course, but usually come in a twist pile or loop pile, known as
berber design. The wool is dyed to create the wide range of colours available,
including adding patterns too.
Man made fibre carpets offer a longer life than natural fibres, because they
withstand wear and tear better. These fibres include nylon, polypropylene
and polyester. The benefits of using man made fibres are things like stain
resistance, longevity, cost, durability, resistance to flattening and may be a
better choice for washrooms or kitchens because excessive dampness may
occasionally cause shrinkage or mould on natural fibres.
